A hitch in his voice, a low catch when he spoke the word desire, tingled a response low in Kae’s body. Again her head and heart warred. Her head knowing he spoke of his desire to learn the portals, her heart demanding another, more personal desire. Every bit of that desire, every thought and feeling she’d tried to squash over the past month flared to vibrant life. If he touched her, she’d explode. She wanted him to touch her. She closed the shallow distance between them. “I understand.”

When she slid her hand along his arm, Bard shuddered. Then she moved closer and her heat rose to him. He inhaled deeply. Her palm was cool against his skin as her other hand slid around his waist. The tips of her breasts brushed his chest. She sighed and rested her cheek over the pounding of his heart.

As if with a will of their own, his hands settled at her waist and inched her minutely away from his body. She lifted her face to him, questions forming on her tempting, parted lips and in her dark expressive eyes.

Pressing his mouth gently over hers, he inhaled her sigh. Yes! his mind shouted. This was why he returned to the desert Sahara. There was no other reason, but the woman. He deepened the kiss, nipping and teasing her lips, his male pride satisfied as she responded with soft cries and the gift of her tongue.
