More Herbs Less Salt Day
Friday, August 29th, 2008
Yep, that’s right. Today is More Herbs Less Salt day. A great idea, though one I’m not the best at following. I do enjoy the wonderfully fresh flavor of salt on garden tomatoes, or hot, buttery popcorn. Yumm!
“Salt is what makes things taste bad when it isn’t in them.”

Herbs are great for adding flavor, too. And I know I should use more of them than I do of salt. But old habits are difficult to break.
I grew up in a meat and potatoes family. Spices were–salt and pepper. Oh, and maybe a little chili powder when making–chili. And Dill was for pickles. So I never learned to use herbs in cooking. I’m still trying to adjust to flavor-filled cooking. And the different ways food tastes. It’s definitely a good thing to start young people out with lots of different herbs and spices, and less salt.
Although… “It is a true saying that a man must eat a peck of salt with his friend before he knows him.” Miguel deCervantes–Don Quixote
I’m sure eating herbs with a friend is as important–and perhaps will add a little variety and spice to your relationship.
