bubble wrap appreciation day

Monday, January 28th, 2008

ooh, don’t cha just love to pop the bubbles on that protective wrap? Wonder where bubble wrap came from?

Well, I’ll tell ya…

Two engineers were attempting to create a paperbacked plastic wall paper.  Why? That may be something only they know. As you can imagine, the product was unsuccessful. However, they realized that what they came up with could be used for cushioning items when packing. Up until then, harsher materials such as crumpled paper was used for packing, so delicate items rejoiced when wrapped in bubbles.

Besides protective wrapping, stress relief and just plain old popping fun, bubble wrap can be used for many things…clothing 11bubblegown1.jpg

You can even determine your personality by how you pop bubble wrap! http://www.sealedair.com/products/protective/bubble/funstuff/personality.html

So, pop away and enjoy your day! Visit the official bubble wrap appreciation day site at

the sound of one hand…

…typing!

On the other hand, you have different fingers.

 Stephen Wright

Last Friday I slipped on a patch of ice, pitched forward, and broke my wrist. Now I’m casted in wonderful purple, awaiting a CT scan to check for unseen damage. Oh, joy.

Lucky, I thought, that it was my left wrist that was out of commission. However, I now realize how much that poor left hand contributes to my well being. Getting dressed, putting in my contacts, putting toothpaste on the toothbrush, just pulling the covers up at night.  I couldn’t even touch my thumb and forefinger together to hold a slip of paper. Not to mention holding a paperback open to read. (Not that I’m supposed to do anything with that hand even now.) The cast has made that mobility better, but still…

And typing–a major part of my life as a writer–now one handed. I’d gotten pretty good at ‘touch typing’ and can go along at a pretty good clip. But somehow, with my left hand resting alone to one side, suddenly my brain cells have forgotten where the letters are! Talk about going back to hunt and peck!

Appreciate a Dragon Day

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

To attract good fortune, spend a new penny on an old friend, share and old pleasure with a new friend and lift up the heart of a true friend by writing his name upon the wings of a dragon.

Appreciate a dragon day. For dragon lovers, what could be better? Actually, this day began to promote literacy. When you think about it, there’s a whole lot of tales with dragons. My personal favorite dragon stories come from Anne McCaffrey and her son Todd. Ah, if I could somehow travel to Pern and experience that life, even if only for awhile…

Dragons have always been popular in fiction, from stories of the creation of the world to modern romances where shapeshifting dragons are contemporary heros and heroines. It’s a festival of draconic fun!

dragon03.gif No matter the culture, or what part of the world, there’s some form of dragon. Hmm, I wonder about Antartica…may there be ice dragons there? That’s something to explore!

So read about a dragon today!

May the dragon of life only roast your hot dogs and never burn your buns!
